Peru 2013

Day 9 Neuvo Cajamarca to Moyobamba     29 miles   900 feet of climbing

After yesterday’s epic ride we were ready for a recovery day.  The route today was relatively flat, especially early on.  There were a few steep rollers, but not grinding hills.  We reached our hotel before noon.  It almost seemed like we were being slackers.  Besides the day’s normal compliment of scenery, we enjoyed the idea of our destination, the resort hotel Puerto Mirador (beautiful view).   On arriving we were not disappointed, nice rooms, an excellent lunch prepared by the resident Cordon Bleu trained chef.  The highlight of lunch for me was the “egg rolls” with chili sauce.

The roads are busier than we have seen on our trip since Piura.  I’m told the roads have become much busier in the last few years.  The ride today was tempting to ride for speed, which I did for a while.  But the point is to see the country and its people, so I slowed and smelled.
