Peru 2013

Pucara to Jaen       52 miles                     3,200 feet of climbing

Glad to leave noisy, dirty Pucara.  The day started with a 1,200 foot continuation of yesterday’s descent over forty miles.  We enjoyed a nice lunch at the turnoff for Jaen.  The day had turned hot.  We then climbed eight miles up to head for Jaen and rode down the last four miles into town.  Although Jaen has a “reputation” as a resort town, it’s hard to know why.  It’s a bustling, dusty place with the usual compliment of Moto-taxis, small motorcycles and trucks of all sizes.  There is rampant retail competition as in all Peruvian cities.  Where one merchant has success, more open copy-cat stores.  There were three stores selling retail fixtures from store fronts in one block.  They seemed to be made by the same manufacturer.  How would a merchant differentiate their product?  But commerce seems to flourish.

  1. Hi Ron! I'm thoroughly enjoying your blog. Who's that cute guy in the red and white bike helmet in the last pic? Reminds me of somebody . . .
